Chillhop – loop animation

I was commissioned by the YouTube-famous music channel, Chillhop, to create the album cover and a looped animated video for their newest Japan-themed collection of Lo-Fi Hip-Hop beats. Kana contributed most of the character design and animations.
YouTube で有名な音楽チャンネル、Chillhop、の最新の日本をテーマにした Lo-Fi Hip-Hop ビート コレクションのアルバム カバーとループ アニメーション ビデオの制作を依頼されました。キャラクターデザインとアニメーションの大部分はKanaが担当しました。

Susume, Karolina – direction

すすめ、カロリーナ　短編アニメ

I was asked to do this short web animation as a part of a campaign to support Karolina Styczyńska, who is the first female, foreign shōgi (Japanese chess) player who was able to become a professional! The animation is sponsored by the maker of CalorieMate balanced food and was made with the awesome power of animation studio Colorido.

I wrote, directed this short movie and also made the watercolor backgrounds for it (with the help of Laura Heikkala).

プロモーションアニメ「すすめカロリーナ」の監督、原作、背景を担当しました。 外国人初の女性プロ棋士カロリーナ・ステチェンスカさんの応援キャンペーンのひとつとして、スポンサーのカロリーメイトと、スタジオコロリドと共に制作したアニメーションです。

Your Name – backgrounds

君の名は。　背景美術

I have worked as a part of the core art team painting backgrounds for the feature length animated movie directed by Shinkai Makoto titled 「君の名は。」“Your Name” released in Japan in summer 2016. During the production I painted digitally, using Photoshop, more than 120 backgrounds for various scenes including Tokyo cityscapes, mountain village backgrounds, painterly images for the flashback scene and many more.

2016年夏に日本で公開された新海誠監督の長編アニメーション映画「君の名は。」の背景を手掛けるコアアートチームの一員として働いてきました。制作中、東京の街並み、山間の村の背景、回想シーンの絵画的なイメージなど、さまざまなシーンの背景をPhotoshopを使って120枚以上デジタルで描きました。

Mottainai TVCM – backgrounds

もったいない NHK TVCM 　背景美術

A television commercial directed by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya titled “Mottainai”, produced for a joint campaign by NHK and Advertising Council Japan (AC Japan). “Mottainai” is a term which conveys a sense of regret concerning waste, both physical waste and wasteful action.

I was in charge of the backgrounds for this short animation and painted most of them myself using Adobe Photoshop.

The Case of Hana & Alice – backgrounds

花とアリス殺人事件 　背景美術

I was part of the core team making backgrounds for the cinema-length animated movie “The Case of Hana & Alice” (花とアリス殺人事件 Hana to Alice Satsujin Jiken) written and directed by Shunji Iwai.

岩井俊二監督の長編アニメーションで背景を描かせていただきました。
実際の写真を元にマットペイントによって描いたものが多いですが、ゼロから描き起こしたものも多くあります。（例えば僕が描いたバレエ教室のシーンなど）100枚ほど描いた背景をご覧になりたい方は是非映画を観てください！

Space☆Dandy – backgrounds

I contributed many backgrounds to the TV animated series “Space Dandy” produced by studio Bones. I painted about 25 views of the planet Machinia (also the planet explosion scene).

I took part in making two of the television commercials in the series depicting large construction projects done by the Taisei Corporation outside of Japan directed by Makoto Shinkai.
